Thursday Fanworks Days

Thursdays are now Fanworks Days!

From May 4 through August 31, Cecilia and Daron will be taking a bit of a summer break, with new chapters posted only on Tuesdays (and Saturdays as the tip jar fills up). As we did in 2015, we’ll be filling the weekly gap with fanworks of all kinds, from art to fanfic, rec lists to memes, original music inspired by DGC to the much-anticipated casting submissions for DGC characters.

To join in, pick a date from the list below, email dgcfanworks@gmail.com with your preferred posting date, the type of work you plan to submit, and any questions you have.

A few things to keep in mind:

Dates are first come, first serve. If your date is taken, you’ll get slotted into the next available one. If all dates are filled, we’ll either open up weekend dates or make double posts on Thursdays.

For the sake of the sanity of your humble fanworks minions (Amanda, sanders, and Stef), please try to keep your number of submitted memes or images to six per batch, and fic to a max of about 2000 words.

Video mixes are love, but sanders strongly recommends creating a YouTube (or similar) playlist if you have more than eight songs in mind.

Previous image guidelines from challenges and the meme contest apply this time around: Images should be a minimum of 640 pixels wide and 360 pixels tall, and a maximum of 1280 pixels wide and 720 pixels tall. (If your art is too big, use a free resizing tool like PicResize.com or ResizeYourImage.com.) To be on the safe side and make sure you’re not infringing on a photographer or artist’s copyright, either get permission from the artist to use their image, or use images that are licensed for re-use, are public domain, or Creative Commons. You can search popular photo sources like Flickr and Google Image search with a filter to only show you CC or non-copyrighted images.

Most importantly, have fun! All submissions are welcome, regardless of experience, whether it’s your first fic or seventieth meme. If you’d like a beta, editor, or cheerleader to get or keep you motivated—or if you’d like to take one of those roles for someone else—leave a comment here. You can also feel free to leave prompts, inspirational words or images, or general encouragement on this post. Who knows what you might spark?
